CASE Needs YOU, Have YOU Joined Yet?

CASE-Needs You Poster

Everyone knows that Calgary BADLY needs more skateparks, and CASE has been working hard to make this happen.  We have been advocating for a network of skateparks and skate spots across the city and an important step towards that vision will take place in December.  CASE has been collaborating with register as a CASE member and “like” us on Facebook so you will know what is going on, and know what you can do so Calgary can have more skateparks,  including an indoor park, soon!

How Are We Doing?

We’d like to hear from you. Let us know what you think of CASE. Let us know if you have any questions or suggestions for us, our website, or skateboarding in general. Click the image below to email us.

Vauxhall, AB Planning Skatepark

It seems that every small town within a few hundred kilometres of Calgary is getting a great new skatepark. Well, it appears the town of Vauxhall is not so lucky. Although are getting a park, they’ve hired Canadian Ramp Company to design it. All evidence leads us to believe that this will be a modular park (movable pieces with steel/wood frame ramps). We feel sorry for the skaters of Vauxhall but at least there won’t be another small town with a better skatepark than Calgary’s! Here’s an example of a modular park, courtesy of Skaters for Public Skateparks:

Skatepark Murals

A recent article by Skaters for Public Skateparks put a spotlight on murals in skateparks and how they can clear up unsightly amateur graffiti. Here are some images from the article:

The cities of Edmonton and Winnipeg have taken similar initiatives at their parks, incorporating local artists:

Callingwood Plaza (Edmonton)

Plaza at The Forks in Winnipeg, MB

The City of Calgary recently commissioned some murals at our own Shaw Millennium Skatepark. Watch the video for more information:
