Thanks to everyone who came out to Westside yesterday to clean the dirt out of the park. It’s all ready to go now. Take advantage of it because this will be the last summer the concrete park will be open!
With all the warm weather we’ve been having it’s looking like the Millennium clean-up won’t involve much snow shovelling. Bring a broom if you have one and maybe some gloves to pick up garbage.
Here’s a photo from the Westside clean up:
Westside is having a clean up of their park tomorrow (Wednesday) beginning at about 3:00PM. The clean up at Millennium Park is this Saturday at 2:00PM.
Now that we know what’s going on with the Westside skatepark, it’s time to figure out what’s going on with Millennium Park with regards to the West LRT expansion. According to the City of Calgary, “Through Millennium Park, the LRT will be above ground (elevated on piers) and will run on the north and west sides of the park.” So the train will run just on the edge of what’s known as the “beginner” section of the skatepark, which is good news. Watch this video of the planned route to get a better idea:
Some of you may have heard that the concrete skatepark at Westside Rec Centre is closing. Well, it’s true. The park will be closing this Fall to make room for the expansion of the LRT or C-train as many like to call it.
Westside realizes how important having a skatepark is and is working with the City on another park at their facility. Preliminary discussions indicate it will most likely be a “modular” park, similar to the ones built by American Ramp Company.
Obviously, replacing a permanent concrete skatepark with a modular park is not the ideal solution but in the long run it could help us Calgary skateboarders in our bid to get a new concrete park built. Join C.A.S.E. and let us know what you think.
Someone in Airdrie is lucky to have their own park. A few Calgary skaters including Drew Merriman, Clint Lucier, and others get to skate it. Check the vid, poached from our friends at Med Hat Skate.
