The Callingwood skatepark in Edmonton is hosting the Best of the West competition this weekend. It’s a shop-battle type of thing between Edmonton area shops. Since The Source has an Edmonton location, it looks like they’ll be the only Calgary representative.
The Airdrie Extreme Athletics Association (AEAA) is looking for new board members. This is an important group that was the driving force behind the new Airdrie skatepark. And they will continue to plan events at the skatepark as well as the future expansion. Their annual general meeting is on Thursday, September 30th at 7:00PM. The location is Airdrie City Hall, 400 Main St. If you live in or near Airdrie this is a great way to get involved and support skateboarding.
Scott Furkay has been shooting skate photos in and around Calgary for a while now. Scott rips on board and behind the camera so scope his blog for more photos. Here’s Clint Lucier at Airdrie and Chaz Ortiz at Cochrane:
Millennium Park has seen demos from some of the best: Tony Hawk, Chris Cole, Eric Koston, and tons more have all skated there. Here’s a clip from a few years back when Daewong Song, Marc Johnson, and other members of the Matix team put on a show.
