One of our readers, TopTyler, passed along some information about the future development of St. Patrick’s Island. We at CASE think it would make a great location for a future skatepark; it’s close to downtown and there is currently not much else on the island. The company who is developing the St Patrick’s Island, CMLC, is interested in what Calgarians want to see and has posted a survey here. It’s a quick survey (only 12 questions) and “skateboard park” fits in nicely in the “other” answer box for question 4. It closes on June 3rd at midnight.
We’ve posted some photos of the new skatepark in Airdrie. This is what the City of Airdrie is saying:
The new Skate Park in Chinook Winds Park is complete and now open to the public. However, the area immediately surrounding it remains a construction zone closed to the public. There is a temporary access being provided to the Skate Park only. “We love the enthusiasm we’ve seen already and we know people are anxious to try it out. We want you to get out there and ride right away, so we’ve opened the skate park early. In return, we know you will use it respectfully so it doesn’t have to be completely closed off before the Grand Opening August 28,” says Rhonda Deaville-Erb, Parks Planner.
The Skate Park is 1860 sq.m (20,000 sq.ft) of outdoor multi-use park area for skateboarding, biking and rollerblading – almost three times larger than the existing skateboard park at Nose Creek. Room for all!
Where is it? Travel west on Yankee Valley Boulevard, turn left onto Chinook Winds Drive, past the Rocky View School Division building. Continue past the ball diamonds, around the south end as the road curves right. The site can only be accessed via the south end of Chinook Winds Drive. This is also the construction access; please be respectful of all signage – construction equipment and workers. They’re working hard to get the park ready for the Grand Opening.
Stayed tuned to airdrie.ca for more details on all of Chinook Winds park amenities and details of the grand opening in August.
The Medicine Hat Skateboard Association is again hosting their Beat the Heat skate competition on July 1st at Kin Coulee Skatepark in Medicine Hat, AB. These guys continually hold high-class events with high-cash prizes. Check the poster for details:
It’s not often that you see park footage from Okotoks but the small park is fun and well worth the quick trip (especially since the renovations a few years ago). Watch the clip below, courtesy of Artschool:
