Medicine Hat – Beat the Heat July 1st
The MHSA is hosting their annual competition, Beat The Heat this Friday, July 1st. Here is what they’re saying about this year’s event:
“Beat The Heat is a skateboard contest that has grown from a local gathering to a nationally recognized event. Over the years, people from all over Western Canada have made BTH a staple event to attend. This contest brings out some of the best talent in the country, from Vancouver to Winnipeg.
Because of its close affiliation with the local Medicine Hat, AB Canada Day festivities, BTH is able to attract the attention of thousands of spectators. In doing this, it helps to shed a positive light on skateboarding within the community and allows the scene to grow and prosper in the small prairie city of Medicine Hat, AB.
This year the competitors battle for the cash purse of $7,250.00. Furthermore, over $10,000.00 worth of prizes were given away to the competitors and attendees. In a continuing attempt to make this event as far-reaching as possible, big things are being planned for next year. See you there.”
Miss Universe Canada Contestant a Calgary Skater!
This is kind of random news but Calgary’s Tina Grant is competing in the Miss Universe Canada Pageant. Her bio says, “Tina competed in an all females skateboard competition called “See Jane and Skate”. She placed second in her category.” Go Tina!
Red Bull Manny Mania on June 26th
Red Bull Manny Mania is coming to Calgary on Sunday, June 26th at the Cedarbrae Community Centre. The address is 11024 Oakfield Drive SW. Registration is from 11AM – 12 noon and the event begins 12 noon. Must be 16+ to register (under 18 needs a guardian signature to compete).
City of Calgary: New Brighton Athletic Park
The City of Calgary is looking for feedback for the future New Brighton Athletic Park. Specifically, they’re wondering what types of services/amenities the park should offer. The feedback form has “skateboard park” on it as an option, so rank it number one if you want to see a new skatepark at this facility.
