It’s been brought to our attention that a few ramps and rails from the City of Calgary Mobile Skateparks have been stolen. It’s too bad that someone would take equipment that is free for everyone to skate and things like this seem to hamper efforts to get new parks built.
They would be really easy to return– simply call 311.
Here’s a description of what was stolen:
Rail one: square black flat bar with 4 inch by 4 inch flat metal bars supported by legs, all metal, about 8 feet and has distinct loops welded to the bottom of the flat bar sections.
Rail two: square black flat bar with 4 inch by 4 inch flat metal bars supported by legs, all metal, about 12 feet and has distinct loops welded to the bottom of the flat bar sections, is kinked and goes from 6 inches in height to around 10 inches.
Wedge ramp: metal framed, skatelite topsheet, wood bottom sheet, 2 to 2.5 feet high, 4 feet wide, roughly 6 feet long.
Quarter pipe: 4 foot transitioned quarter pipe section, 4 feet wide, 6 feet long, metal framed, skatelite topsheet.
Wow, dudes really wanna sesh! Maybe if the city just built a couple new parks, people wouldn’t need to steel stuff to skate. Cochrane, Strathmore, Brooks, Taber, Canmore, friggin Langdon, and soon Airdrie. The mobile park program has always been like a band-aid on a gunshot wound. Only 2 months, limited hours, crappy pavement in most of the locations, helmets…
How many of the above towns had volunteer groups that worked their ass off for a few years before getting a park built in their town? Strathmore, Airdrie and Langdon for sure. Usually city’s or towns don’t just hand over land and thousand dollar skateparks, they come with work from public organizations that represent those groups. That is how Langdon got built, that is how Airdrie got built, that is how Strathmore got built and that is how Millennium got built. That is why it is so important that skateboarders get involved with their community. not take it away from each other. I think it makes sense if you would like to get more skateparks in your town / city you get more people involved in groups like CASE. More people donating to the group on their donations page and more people getting involved in the activities / events CASE is involved in.
