Some of you may have heard that the concrete skatepark at Westside Rec Centre is closing. Well, it’s true. The park will be closing this Fall to make room for the expansion of the LRT or C-train as many like to call it.
Westside realizes how important having a skatepark is and is working with the City on another park at their facility. Preliminary discussions indicate it will most likely be a “modular” park, similar to the ones built by American Ramp Company.
Obviously, replacing a permanent concrete skatepark with a modular park is not the ideal solution but in the long run it could help us Calgary skateboarders in our bid to get a new concrete park built. Join C.A.S.E. and let us know what you think.
Someone in Airdrie is lucky to have their own park. A few Calgary skaters including Drew Merriman, Clint Lucier, and others get to skate it. Check the vid, poached from our friends at Med Hat Skate.
The City of Calgary is hiring monitors for Millennium Park and the mobile parks. It’s a fun job and you get paid to skate!
The job closes on April 3rd so there’s only a few days left to apply. Link here and scroll down to reference number 109768.
Spring is “officially” here but there is still a lot of snow at the skatepark. We’re planning to clean it up so that we’ll be able to skate as soon as possible. Come out and join us on April 18th when we shovel, ice-chop, sweep, mop, and do what it takes to get Mills back into skateable condition. There will be some give-aways from sponsors The Source,Element Skateboards, and C1RCA. Check the poster for details and bring your own shovels and brooms!
It should come as no surprise that Millennium Park is still covered in snow. As of this afternoon though, the tub is completely clear and dry. The warm weather we’re in for this weekend should help melt some of the snow and it won’t be long until we see stuff like this going down:
